Anderson Electric Car Co.

In business from 1909 till about 1940, the company's heyday was in the 1910s, selling mainly to women and people who did not want the hassles of handstarting a gas engine. The maximum speed was about 20 mph and the range about 80 miles. The name was changed to Detroit Electric Car Company in 1920. About 13,000 were built in total.

Damn $2550 in 1915 is $64,657. in today's money! Bet the average Joe wasn't buying one of those. That is why Ford won.

That seems to be the story with every electric car I've found. the price was 2-4 times as much as a gas engine car and the drawback is the range. I think that's still true. Electric cars have a place, but they're a long way from being the total answer.

The 1930's era Detroit Electrics featured the front ends of contemporary cars added to the boxy original body - not very attractive.
