Here's an interesting variation on the telescopic fork found on a early 50s MV 125cc racer. The sliders are just sliders, joined with a yoke, the spring and damping action of the suspension is contained in the central spring unit mounted between it and the top triple clamp. Not sure what the advantages might be other than the quick change aspect.

The same center-spring fork was used on the DMW Hornet 125 and Typhoon 500 racers in the '60s. DMW was owned by Harold Knock, boss of Metal Profile Eng. forks. The idea might have been to reduce unsprung weight (?).
Interesting, I'll look them up. The article showed another bike with an Earles fork, so they were experimenting. The suspension unit would be quick to change out and to service.
I was looking through my junk, somehow I've acquired a pair of Metal Profiles sliders. that's enough of an excuse to do a post!
