Sidecar Sunday

Hans Haldeman and unnamed passenger in the 1949 Swiss Grand Prix. The passenger is rarely named in these old pictures, but is in what might be described as the "full cower" position.

I don't think I ever saw a Matchless G50 (or, even more so, an AJS 7R) put to the job of hauling a sidecar before. Not that I'm sure it is a G50, but the fork sliders look right and it appears to have that big ol' cover for the cam gears climbing the engine's visible side.

I think that's the drive shaft for the overhead cam. According to Wikipedia the bike is a Norton.
