The 32 passenger F-27 Friendship first flew in 1955, with the first sale occuring in 1958. Through the sixties, it became a popular replacement for the DC-3 and when production ended in 1987 586 had been built with Fairchild building an addition 207.
It was replaced by a modernized but similar variant, the F-50. Pratt and Whitney Canada engines replaced the original Rolls Royce Darts.
