Westwood Racing Circuit

Westwood Raceway was a road course situated in Coquitlam, British Columbia (greater Vancouver).  Founded in 1959, it was a popular venue for both car and motorcycle racing. Unfortunately, urban sprawl swallowed it up in 1990.

By the fonts and the car shapes, I would guess this poster dates to the early seventies?

Lots of Westwood memories at the  Racin' thru the raindrops blog

I think your guess is spot on. The typeface, Avant Garde, came out in 1970, quickly became nauseatingly popular, and was still ubiquitous c. 1980. It was a pretty cool display face; I say "nauseating" because it was both overused and misused (as a text font, it's tiresomely contrived and hard to read.

The introduction of photographic and then digital typefaces meant that the '70s were overrun with fonts that almost immediately became cliches and warning signs of clueless or tasteless print-advertising art directors. ITC, which produced Avant Garde and a lot of the others, was analagous to the mediocrity machines that produced '70s Top 40 radio.

Lived in the area since 1967, it was sad to see it all thrown away. Small portions of the track still remain, but are quickly being overrun by nature. some images from The City of Coquitlam Archives here: Westwood

Calendars for 1975 show July 13 and 27 as Sundays, so that's my guess.

Yep. The Vancouver Sun lists those races and dates in 1975, although I was damn sure those were early 1980's body styles.
