Huck's starter

The RCAF tries out a Huck's starter, a power alternative to manually turning a propeller to start an airplane engine. Looks safe!

Very popular with the Russians during WWII. M.Silvius is correct worked very well especially in the winter.

The aviation equivalent of the motorcycle starting rollers. I was at an airshow where a Corsair wouldn't quite go, saved by a pair of portable booster packs!

Russians were big on using compressed air starters. Actually a great, simple, easy system compared to all that sparky stuff:)
