After discovering yesterday there is or was a need for lubricating leaf springs and identifying a spring spreading clamp, I consulted the 1949-52 Pontiac service manual and discovered another type of lubricator- and instructions on how to use it.

I worked on Rolls Royce's that had fully enclosed leaf springs with grease fitting already installed, I wonder why our folks didn't do that? Ditto what Monica said:)
I seem to recall a trick from the seventies, to jack the vehicle up and slide nylon webbing from those old aluminum lawn chairs in between the leaves (leafs?).
