South Bend belt upgrade

Today's project was a long overdue upgrade for the lathe.  The old hard thin fibre belt had always slipped under pressure, and a automotive serpentine belt seemed a perfect fit.  It's a bit of a pain to replace, the main shaft, countershaft drive shaft and back gear all had to be removed.  I had to consult the Youtube school of knowledge to learn the back gear assembly is held together with tapered pins and then I had to persuade all those parts to come apart, they've been there since 1944, but it's all done now, The belt is grippier and runs much quieter. Good upgrade.

Very fine; I envy your gumption.

What do the gauges on that dash panel tell you? I'd guess RPMs, but there my imagination grinds to a halt.

That's part of another silly project, and a future post...my version of a cyclekart https://www.cyclekarts.com/ and that will be my fake-dashbard, the tach is aircraft from the teens or twenties (er, the last century's) and the other gauges just look the part. :- ) The dash will be a piece of cherry instead of whatever tropical-plywood that is.
