Woodsplitting issues

I have a 20 year old boy, we fed him right so he grew up taller and stronger than me. He's a good worker when I can get him motivated, splitting wood is one task he will sometimes get into. During a particularly enthusiastic day with some nearly unsplittable chunks, I hear; "Uhhh Dad...." 

 That's ok, I'll make another handle.  I'd feel worse if the kid wouldn't put pick up a tool at all.


 

There is wood you can split by hand, then there is elm...

OMG, so true about Elm. That picture of the entangled Elm makes my back ache. "What tool do I need to pull this thing apart?"
