The STP Turbine car
Andy Granatelli had brought STP into racing and in 1967 went over the top, putting a radical new Ken Wallis-designed racecar on the grid of the Indianapolis 500. It broke new ground, mating a Pratt and Whitney gas turbine airplane engine in a 4WD chassis with a wedge shaped body. The car led the race but broke down at the 492 mile mark. The next year, the team moved to this Lotus 56 turbine car, Rule changes had restricted the air intake so power was reduced. None of the cars finished, two broke down, and this one, Graham Hill's car, crashed. It's now in the Indianapolis Speedway museum. The next year, further restrictions on the turbine engine and the banning of all wheel drive eliminated the car.

One of those "Make this from 2 sheets of plywood" type projects. I like it.
