For 1939, AJS converted their supercharged 500cc V4 to liquid cooling in an effort to make the machine more reliable. Here it is at Brooklands, sporting the 4 required mufflers for noise abatement.

That's an amazing story! Great concept. Many years later, we were treated to Honda Civic racing at Mosport. It was raining and it was very entertaining.
