Excelsior #2 wagon jack

Here's a nice cast iron ratcheting wagon jack. Push down on the handle, the jack extends and the ratchet clicks into place holding it there. Patents are dated 1883 and 1885 so this was pre-automotive but did wagon wheels experience blowouts...?

The Internet says they were primarily used to raise and remove the wheel to grease the hub, something I would imagine had to be done relatively frequently and they didn't have pressurized grease guns. This one looks like it can be screwed to a piece of wood, handy when you have to use it in the mud.
