Royal York Hotel, Toronto

E T Hart, The Selling of Canada, Altitude Publishing.1983
The Royal York hotel was built across the street from the newly opened Union Station and opened in 1929. With its Imperial Ballroom, It was the social center of the city for years, with major acts playing into the 1990s. The hotel was enlarged in 1957, with a new wing added on the east side of the building and in the early seventies the building was extensively renovated and modernized.
Today, surrounded by modern skyscrapers in a bustling downtown, both buildings are still doing what they were designed to do 90 years later.
