Monday mystery, Cast iron doodad

Found in the basement of an old house, this object looks familiar, but it's yet to be identified. About 1 x2 1/2", 1/2" thick. It's the same pattern on both sides. Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks Kate!

I believe it's for neatly ensmoothening the interstitial cement between bricks in a wall or chimney. They also serve, in a clumsy fashion, as Dobro-style guitar slides.

Aha! Thank you. (That’s my hand in the first photo.) There’s a fireplace in my grandparents’ house that my grandpa built so that must be it. Guess this tool has been hiding in the basement for 55 years. :)

I'd like some verification that ensmoothening is an actual word:-)

'Ensmoothening' is a perfectly cromulent word...

Looks like a metal garlic grater. I've only seen ceramic ones, but who knows?
