The Trident and the Scamp

S.C.H. Davis.  Cars Cars Cars Cars.  London:  Paul Hamlyn, 1967.

The Trident was built by Peel Engineering on the Isle of Man.  It made use of either a 49cc powerplant or a "high power" 99cc engine from a Triumph Tina scooter.  The Scamp was the product of Scottish Aviation, originally a flying school which morphed into some limited aircraft manufacturing during the Second World War. Lucas batteries, leaking bodywork and a cramped cockpit ultimately spelled its doom.  Stirling Moss was convinced to drive one for a publicity stunt, but his impressions are unknown.

Peel Engineering has brought back the smaller version of its electric car, the P50, and you can buy one today!  It continues to hold the record as the world's smallest car:  54 inches long and 41 inches wide!
