Coupe René Le Bègue

A fanciful scene for a race poster by motoring artist Géo Ham- I don't think unmanned sidecars raced with solos! This was the first Grand Prix event held after the war, the course set up at St. Cloud in Paris for the event and never run again. This was a combination car and motorcycle event, Wikipedia has the car results. I was hoping to be able to put together the track route through the streets, and the  view below looks like a reasonable location for the scene on the poster.

This link takes you to a detailed illustration of the Circuit de St Cloud:

And this one to the illustration's author's blog site, it appears he's done hundreds of them...

Here's a picture of the tunnel exit in 1946:

I can see some similarities to the façade in the poster, like the general shape and the arches on the side. A French wiki entry says the original facades were reconstructed in the 70's when the second tunnel was built so the original façade likely doesn't exist. Still, it was a hell of a Google streets tour; thanks for that.

Thanks, guys! I too enjoyed some virtual walking of Paris streets. Looks like the bridge was the place to be!
