Interoceanic Railway Concept



 This marine railway was proposed as an alternative to the Panama Canal in this 1884 Scientific American illustration. Note the huge fanciful double ended steam locomotives.

I mean an empty ship, maybe. But a fully-loaded cargo vessel?

I propose giant hot air balloons to float the ships across with Hieronymus Karl Frederick Baron von Munchausen as Commander of the Air. It would have worked!
