In 1954 Renault's aviation division proposed that Renault showcase the new gas turbine technology by building a land speed record car. The car was named "Shooting Star" and had a mid-engined 260 hp gas turbine engine. The company ran the car at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1956 and achieved a speed of 191 mph- the speed record for gas-turbine cars. According to Wikipedia in the mid-nineties Renault restored and drove the car. It is now in the Renault's Historical Cars Collection.
