The Desoto was chosen as a pace car for the 1956 Indianapolis 500 and the company got to show off their Hemi V8. Looking classy in white and gold with gold wheel covers, the car with 330 cu in engine and push button automatic transmission was reputedly capable of nearly 140 mph. There were between 100 and 500 replicas (depends what you read) sold that year.

Apparently the replicas of the actual pace car that were sold by dealers featured the rare Highway Hi-Fi 45 RPM record player.
