Published by Random House in 2002 and exhaustively researched, this is a fascinating read about the circumstances surrounding this tragedy in August 2000 which claimed the lives of 118 Russian submariners. The title comes from a poem written by one of the officers, Dmitri Kolesnikov, to his wife before he left on the exercise that cost him his life.
