According to its Wikipedia entry:
"Saab engineers placed all controls and gauges in the dashboard according to their frequency of use and/or importance so that the driver need only divert his gaze from the road for the shortest possible time and by the smallest angle."
In contrast, American car makers today seem hell-bent on building as many distractions as possible into the dashboards of automobiles.

They also put the ignition switch on the transmission hump and lubricated the transmission with (10W30) engine oil. But definitely a cool car.
